About Laura L Hampton

Originally from Warwick in the Midlands, I grew up in Burnley in Lancashire with my mum and two younger sisters. Over the years I made a really good group of friends, with whom I am still in touch today, and enjoyed socialising through sport, day trips and nights out. I was even part of a girl’s rugby team called the Pendle Panthers!

I did well in school and always worked hard, achieving four A*s, three As, two Bs and two Cs at GCSE level before going on to study Psychology, English, Media, Performing Arts and French to A and AS level. I was awarded a place at Loughborough University where I studied Social Psychology, achieving a 2:1 in the subject in June 2008.

University was a fantastic experience for me and I thrived the opportunity to study and explore the subject which had interested me for so long. I became a Student Ambassador for the uni based on my academic achievements and various tests and training which enabled me to represent the university.

I also really enjoyed the social side of uni and used my time to develop some fantastic friendships and get involved in various social groups, including inter-hall sports, a circus skills group where I practised ‘poi’, the equestrian club and the Loughborough Students’ Skydive Club which I joined following participation in a charity skydive event.

It was my love of skydiving which led me to move permanently to Nottingham after graduating. Having been really active in the skydiving club, based just outside of Nottingham, I spent a year after uni gathering work experience whilst working as a parachute packer on the airfield. During this time, I completed nearly four hundred skydives, competed at national level and won a bronze medal in the UK skydiving league with my team Enigma.

I then spent two years working as copywriter and Head of Content Engagement for user experience agency Zabisco. My role was to create engagement with the end user via high quality content, utilising social media, SEO, online PR and various other techniques to meet the needs of different audiences.

It is my love of travel and my ongoing commitment to challenging myself and improving my skills which have led me to my current role with TUI Travel’s Specialist and Activity Sector Graduate Scheme, a role which will see me undertake 6 placements of 3 months each in various locations and businesses around the world. During this time I hope to use my existing skills and develop new ones to become an expert in my field and prove my ability and passion for developing a permanent role within the company.
